Say From SA - March 31

3 minute read

It is Easter and so Oakbank hosts the famous day with a re-jigged format as the Great Eastern is run on the Saturday.

We can’t tip in the jumps races, especially so early in the season.

One horse who is flying at the moment is Tatoosh.

We found him last week and he’s backing up carrying no weight after a 3kg claim.

He can race forward or back and sweeping into the race looks a good option in the big field.

There isn’t a great deal of winning form amongst rivals so his confidence could translate again. Happy to take the price on offer again.

Later in the big sprint on the day the Oakbank Stakes, Benz sets up well.

While he hasn’t been winning he’s been running such honest races including one at Listed level at Moonee Valley.

This course is a little like MV in that it is tight and turning with a short straight. Hoping for him to be near the speed then easing out to the centre where many winners come at Oakbank on carnival days.

Because of the jumps races, the course will not be overly firm and that helps him.

Heart Of A Lion may be an eight-year-old but has had just 35 starts for now 11 wins yet this is his first at stakes level. The top weight was back and wide early but starting the tight bend was one out with three behind him. Approaching the last corner the field all went wide as did Heart Of A Lion with rider Jason Holder working to get closer to the tearaway leader. Into the straight he pulled wider, closed on the leader and took over at the 200m then was punched out to the line for a good win by a length and a quarter. A great finish from Nipperkin who was last turning in and finished very hard right down the outer for second. Riziz saved ground around the bend, remained near the inside turning in and kept on well for third. Arkham Knight kept on solidly the length of the straight to be best of the rest for fourth.
