Gallatin had no early pace and soon dropped out to last in the 16-horse field.

He was still last nearing the home turn, switched between runners on straightening and went out wider still at the 200m. He then came with a strong late run to score by a short neck. It was his second win in eight starts and he looks a most promising young stayer.

Singing Flame was midfield but wide after starting from the outside barrier (16). He moved up to fifth (still deep) at the 800m, put in a quick run approaching the turn and took the lead on turning for home. He was only headed in the latter stages for a particularly good second after a difficult trip. It was a very good effort.

Best Case was near last on the rails to the 800m. He improved between runners coming to the turn, put in a run at the 200m and fought on nicely to take third.

Mountain View was midfield on the rails, made ground on the inside from the 300m and kept battling on along the rails for two and a half lengths fourth.

Vilanova was slowly away and was near last to the 600m. He then went wide on turning for home and kept making ground for a sound fifth.

The favourite Atlante led the field to the turn, but looked suspect in the conditions then dropping out from that point to finish twelfth.
