Godolphin’s Contributer impressed in winning here at his first Australian start. He settled nicely back in fifth place, one off the rails, following a very steady pace (first 1400m 1:30.33). He improved wide with cover nearing the turn before sprinting quickly to hit the lead at the 200m. He then went on to score with something in hand by a length, dashing home, his last 600m in a smart 34.08.

Noble Protector travelled comfortably in second place, moved up to challenge nearing the turn and she then battled on quite well for second, having no chance with the winner.

Signoff was seventh on the rails, looked for a run between runners rounding the home turn, switched out at the 300m and kept making ground for a sound third being unsuited by the sprint home circumstances of the race.

Honorius was third, one off the rails, moved up three wide at the turn then battled on fairly well for (2.4 lengths) fourth while Jacquinot Bay led the field at a moderate pace to the turn and held on for fifth after having every chance.
