It’s Somewhat wins 2015 Liverpool City Cup Group 3 $150,000 at Warwick Farm (NSW) 3yo+, 1300m.
A very good win by Godolphin’s imported stayer It's Somewhat, scoring at his first Australian start. James McDonald settled the four-year-old in seventh on the rails, following a good pace. He got a great run through along the inside nearing the home turn and was fourth on straightening. He then took a moment to wind up, hit the lead at the 100m and went on to win impressively by just over a length. He will obviously appreciate further and looks a quality stayer.
Queenslander Rudy was back in eighth place, between runners, and was under riding coming the 600m. He progressed to fifth at the 200m and kept making good ground for a promising first up second.
Gypsy Diamond was last in the 14-horse field at the 600m, went wide rounding the home turn and she ran on strongly in the centre of the track for a good third.
Malavio also made good late ground, coming from near last at the turn for (1.7 lengths) fourth.
The favourite Red Excitement, a winner of his last five in succession, raced below his best. He was fourth to the home turn but just battled on in the straight for (3.6 lengths) eighth.
