Kindaleica took full advantage of the inside barrier and took a perfect trail in third just behind the leader and held that position around the turn and into the straight. A gap opened then closed as the leader drifted out slightly and then back to rails, forcing Kindaleica to switch ground also. At the 100m the leader was weakening and Kindaleica ranged up and drove past, putting a winning break on the fast finishers.

Dragonkeeper was well back throughout and last on the turn, tried to make a run through but kept finding traffic. When the race was virtually over she flew the last 100m finishing fastest of all to nab second.

Taaxman settled well back and was wide around the home turn but had a great view of the field as they straightened making a strong run in the middle of the track. He looked like securing second until being nosed out by the faster finish of Dragonkeeper.

Khemosabi led from the barrier and held the lead until the 200m, and then battled on to hold fourth.

The Listed 1400m saw a tight finish with the first seven runners across the line of a twelve-horse field all covered within one and a half lengths. The winner Kindaleica has come up super this campaign and after trailing the leaders drove through once one-off into clear air to lead albeit narrowly at the 100m. It was the fourth win of Kindaleica in twenty-one starts but tellingly his third in seven outings so far this campaign. He can race on the speed or sit back plus can swim and has shown the ability to cope on better footing too. Middle distance will be his eventual calling but while racing well as a sprinter-miler can tackle the 2000m plus deeper into this spring. The time of 1:26.34 was the best 1400m clocking of the day but not substantially on what was a Slow9 rated track but it was definitely superior to that and raced more like a Dead6 or Slow7 surface at worst. The runner up Dragonkeeper was a good thing beaten in reality after being away awkwardly and well back as then got held up at the 200m waiting for clear air when wanting to detonate centre track. The mare flew late but missed narrowly. Taaxman ran a brave race too after an awkward start and getting back and wide then moving up deeper before the home turn. The way he sustained his finish augurs well for this time in and the 7yo can lead or race close when away cleanly. Khemosabi led up as expected and the 10yo only got swamped late into fourth. The deadheaters for fifth Illuminati and Candle In The Wind both ran good races and fought on strongly to the line. Smartly fought well too for seventh in a packed finish. Seconds Out was sound enough for eighth when one-off late while Noble Warrior down the outer was decent too. Bechtolsheimer was luckless and can be forgiven, as she was hampered early then when recovering along the inner after 400m had to be grabbed hold of again and ended up in the rear trio again. Sir Kingwood is best left-handed after he ran wide across the top but worth noting is he strode up menacingly to second at the 300m. John Gray the 11yo marvel ran his worst race for a while but has nothing to prove and is getting close to his hundredth outing on the track. Kindaleica still has more to come and middle distance can see him take that step up from Listed level while rain-affected footing is what he really enjoys.
