Perignon wins 2016 Liberty Light Fingers Stakes Group 2 $175,000 at Randwick (NSW) 3yoFillies, 1200m.
Perignon, having her first run since a close third in the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at this track on 3 October, settled back in fifth place, one off the rails, behind a reasonable tempo (first 600m 35.61) before commencing her bid from the 300m. She then came with a strong late run to grab a narrow but impressive win on the post.
Kangarilla Joy had a nice trip in fourth spot, one out and one back. She went to third at the home turn, switched to the rails at the 200m, got to a narrow lead at the 50m and was only to be overhauled on the post for a close second.
Tempt Me Not raced outside the leader (Harlem River), challenged strongly at the 200m and kept fighting well, holding on for a close-up third.
Harlem River went to the front, picked up the pace from the 300m and fought back really well when challenged to finish fourth, beaten a length, in a sound first-up run.
Favourite Stay With Me was eased from her outside barrier (7), settled in last place and raced a bit keenly in the early stages due to the average pace. She made her move at the 300m and ran on quite well in the sprint home, without looking dangerous, to finish (2.3 lengths) fifth. It was her first run since 31 October and she should be improved by the outing and will also appreciate a more genuine tempo.
