Alberto Magic wins 2016 Smooth Fm Maurice McCarten Group 3 $150,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 1100m.
Alberto Magic continues to race in good form and he stepped up here to win his first at stakes level in taking out this Group Three race. He had a good run in third place on the rails from his inside barrier (1), got into clear running at the 300m and finished very well to win narrowly but quite impressively, sprinting home in quick time.
Angels Beach went to the front and looked the winner when she got a break at the 300m. She then battled strongly, only being overtaken in the closing stages for a smart first-up second for new trainer Gerald Ryan.
Her stablemate Bachman settled near last on the rails and remained there until the 300m. He went deep shortly afterwards and then finished particularly well for a bold first-up third. It was smart effort and he looks set for a good preparation.
