Prized Icon wins 2016 Moet & Chandon Champagne Stks Group 1 $500,000 at Randwick (NSW) 2yo, 1600m.
Prized Icon raced back in second place following a strong pace (set by the keen-going El Sicario). He moved up well coming to the home turn, took the lead at the 300m and then dug deep to draw clear over the latter stages to score a strong win, running the 1600m out well.
Chimboraa settled well back in eighth place, tracked up (wide with cover) from the 600m, challenged at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second for a colt that is still a maiden after six starts.
Divine Prophet was last in the ten-horse field to the 600m. He fanned deep on straightening and ran on really well for a good third, putting up a smart effort at only his third race start.
Faraway Town raced in sixth place, challenged strongly at the 200m, briefly looking dangerous before battling on for (3 lengths) fourth, perhaps being tested in the latter stages by the 1600m trip.
