2016 N Z Bloodstock Warstep Stakes Listed April 23 - Riccarton Park

3 minute read

All In Vogue wins 2016 N Z Bloodstock Warstep Stakes Listed NZ$50,000 at Riccarton Park (NZ) 3yoFillies, 2000m.

Jockey, Chris Johnson, allowed All In Vogue to drift early from barrier 11 (of 12), settling equal last. Down the back straight, she found herself last, one off the rails but passing the 800m Johnson scrubbed her up and the Pins filly started to make ground. Widest, she closed in on the leaders and at the 400m, had a great view and clear running then cruised up and took over at the 200m. Appearing to have the race in control, Little Haast challenged briefly so Johnson shook up the winner and she edged away by three quarters of a length at the post for her second win and first stakes win.

Little Haast copped a severe check at the 1200m causing her to drop back to last but she tracked the winner into the home straight, moved a width further out and ran home well, just coming to the end of it short of the line for a pretty decent second.

Princess Davone was wide around the last corner, tried to get on terms with the leaders and then stayed on fairly but had no chance with the first two.

This Listed 3yo filly event over 2000m was run at solid clip overall and saw the first two home the rear duo on settling. There was madness pace wise early by numerous riders and then an attempt to slacken the pace dangerously caused major strife for two runners back on the inner. The winner was All In Vogue with a superior stamina display from the back to come wide near the home turn and then surge into the lead at the 250m. The filly under a confident ride proved too good to win by just under a length and clock 2:02.03, which was the second fastest time of the day and almost nine lengths superior to the G3 at WFA for the older horses later in the card. All In Vogue was winning her second race and also has now added a Listed win to a placing at this level. The maiden Little Haast was colossal in defeat and but for copping a nasty check at the 1300m may well have won. She unleashed a big finish down the outside from last near the home turn and moved into second at the 200m. Princess Davone ran a brave albeit distant third after making a wide run across the top to loom up into third turning for home. De Chine battled away for fourth after getting a soft run the inner while Alyth ran on a shade late. No Pushover was used up twice wide early and then challenged the leader across the top to the home turn so no surprise she was struggling at the 200m. Poetic Affair ran on a shade the closing stages after being second early then losing her place. Twilight Rebel had excuses so can be forgiven while Milly Que just out of maidens was asked an awful lot of very deep a long way out. Deedee Pananche was poor. Goodsav the warm favourite was shocking but got used up way too much early and even after her rider slowed the pace suddenly it just caused trouble and then flushed out others to go up and give her company. Tactically to hunt forward deep from a bad draw after being a tad tardy proved to be a speed map howler plus she never likely backed up from last week. It has to be noted the filly was ridden cold from a bad barrier last week and stormed home for second so a pattern change clearly was her downfall. The winner All In Vogue has scope and she is a big track filly for sure. Little Haast will be odds on if seen next out in a maiden after such a stupendous recovery in this and clearly she has a will to compete. Princess Davone was better and De Chine will not be a maiden for much longer. No Pushover was asked too much of in the running and cost herself and extinguished the favourite Goodsav at the same time too, so a forgive on both. Twilight Rebel can be forgiven too after a check and being held up, so not much went her way. Milly Que did well not to run a clear last after being four-wide for quite a while.
