Alucinari wins 2016 Coolmore Denise’s Joy Stakes Listed $140,000 at Scone (NSW) 3yoFillies, 1100m.

James McDonald did not rush Alucinari from her nine barrier and the pair settled last at the 1000m. Next to the rail, she was giving the leaders ten lengths as the field started on the bend yet was making ground to be closer but locked away on the fence just before the home straight. McDonald did not panic and into the straight a lovely split presented itself so McDonald weaved through and then back to the rails for a final effort. There were many chances at the 150m but Alucinari kept up a dogged run and in a bobbing finish just nutted Roeinda at the post.

Roeinda was just in front of the winner around the corner and handy enough in behind them but did not accelerate quickly, taking time to wind up and really motoring in between runners very late to almost close, but lost in the bobbing finish.

Positive Charge sat a handy fourth into the last corner, moved up to second as they straightened and looked likely at the 150m, taking a narrow lead. She kept up a solid run but could not quite hold out the first two in a driving blanket finish.
