Volpe Veloce wins 2016 Castletown Stakes Listed NZ$50,000 at Wanganui (NZ) 2yo, 1200m.

Volpe Veloce jumped fairly from barrier five and took up a handy spot off the rail and just in behind the leaders. At the bend, rider Johnathan Parkes kept the filly well in touch and approaching the last corner moved up a little closer but under no real pressure. She was presented with a great view, three wide, upon straightening and levelled up to take the lead inside the 250m at which point she accelerated clear. Parkes gave her a brief reminder but it was soon over and she cruised away under hands and heels to score rather easily.

Honey Rider was second early but was allowed to drop back and settled on the rail next to the winner. She was held up briefly when the field straightened but finding room down on the fence she finished best of the rest without looking like worrying the winner.

Technician led or shared the lead, one off the fence, around the bend and into the straight where he battled well to hold third yet some distance from the winner.
