Sense Of Occasion wins 2016 Premier’s Cup Listed $100,000 at Rosehill (NSW) 3yo+, 1900m.
Sense Of Occasion put up a solid staying effort in winning here despite a wide trip. He raced in sixth place (three wide, without cover) before improving (still deep) from the 800m. He challenged at the 200m and then finished well, proving the superior stayer in the closing stages.
His Kris Lees-trained stablemate Singing was handily placed in third spot, moved up well rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 300m and was only overhauled nearing the post for a good second at his second run in Australia.
Magic Hurricane raced in seventh place, on the rails, got through to challenge shortly after straightening and then fought really well under his top weight (61kg) for a close-up third.
Song And Laughter was last in the nine-horse field to the home turn and made good late ground along the rails for (1.2 lengths) fourth. The favourite Allergic had a good trip in fifth place, between runners, but he was held up badly on turning for home and failed to get clear running before finishing an unlucky (1.4lengths) fifth.
