Hot favourite in the small five runner field, Hall Of Fame, coming off an impressive last start win, bolted in for his third win in six starts (first stakes win), beginning well from barrier three, immediately going to the front, but they were not going hard. Rider, Matthew Cameron, clearly knew he was on the best horse in the field and rode him accordingly and they strolled out to a two length lead early. At the 800m they were cruising and into the straight those behind were in another race while Cameron merely sat until passing the 200m when he gave the colt a shake and they bounded clear, proceeding to win easing down.

Stephenstihls raced in fourth down the back and around the bend then pulled out wider entering the home straight and kept on with no chance of catching the winner for a fair second.

Cobblertothestars was third into the straight, lost that position at the 300m but regained it late for a distant third.

Canterbury Stakes (LR)

This Listed 3yo mile usually is a legitimate guide to either the G1 2000 or G1 1000 Guineas but just a paltry five runners contested it this year. The winner Hall Of Fame is a player for the 2000 Guineas and demolished this field but just how strong it was seems very dubious indeed. Hall Of Fame led and got away with a very soft sectional early and then started to quicken a tad across the top before making it a sprint home and the colt sped right away to win by five lengths eased down the closing stages. He clocked 1:36.94 and was winning his third race from six starts and his first at blacktype. Stephenstils, a maiden, recorded his fourth runner up finish today from six starts while Cobblertothestars, also a maiden, was a distant third beaten nine and a half lengths. Leading Role was a poor fourth and his only win came last season and he has not come up at all this time in. Ave Maria settled last and stayed there with the maiden filly beaten almost twenty lengths. Hall Of Fame was far too good but so he should be when allowed to dictate and then sprint hard from 400m plus three of the opposition are maidens. The colt may be a G1 2000 Guineas (1600m) chance but beat nothing of note whatsoever here with the one positive being it was a track gallop and would have taken nothing out of him at all.
