Favourite Talaria was not the fastest out of the gates however in two strides she flew into the lead from barrier six and had a handy advantage within the first 100m. Two lengths clear at the 800m and at the 600m, the lead shrunk turning in but rider Mark Du Plessis had not asked the question. Once balanced, the filly then cruised clear and looked to be in for an easy win. Du Plessis rode her hands and heels but there was a late challenge yet they gamely clung on by a head at the finish.

Oscar Eight sat second last (rails) around the corner, hugged the fence upon straightening and really got going over the last 200m, finishing strongly but a shade too late for a very good second.

Nothin' On Me was third before they straightened, moved out into the middle of the track passing the 200m and ran on best of the rest for a distant third.

The track today for the first five races saw every winner come from either leading or no worse than third and the inside lanes were golden, so track bias dominated these results. This Listed juvenile over 1100m saw Talaria on debut speed over to lead after 100m and she never really looked like being run over. The filly did however shorten stride late to end up winning by just a head and clocked 1:05.50 so she is yet to taste defeat at the trials and now on raceday. Oscar Eight ran on resolutely from second last on settling and was coming hard near the line. He did have his chance to win after striding into second at the 200m so had ample time to bury the leader. Nothin’ On Me was third on settling and a distant third but fighting on okay at the line on debut. Juliette caught the eye running on late for fourth after settling down last. Star Treasure had every chance settling second before wilting while Midnight Runner can be forgiven after a crowded then being hampered start. Hasahalo finished seventh of eight runners and was beaten almost six lengths but the effort was far better than it can ever read. She was crowded then checked early and settled back and wide throughout so will keep for next time seen out. The second favourite Global Thinking was a disappointing last and may have been kicked up and ridden too handy after being crowded early. The winner looks the real deal if she can sustain that high cruising speed over longer trips but this season 1200m to 1400m is the maximum that will be asked of the filly. She has that Karaka Millions look about her already.
