Lusaha wins 2016 Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic Listed $100,000 at Ascot (WA) 3yo, 1400m.

Lusaha was away well from the gates and was taken forward by Hugh Bowman to settle down in third position on the fence on the back of the early leader Caipirinha, who ran along in front. Lusaha travelled strongly in the run when the pace slackened mid race. He travelled well on turning for home but disappointed for a run before pushing out at the 150m and finishing on too strongly, drawing level with Caipirinha than pulling away to score comfortably.

Caipirinha was used up to lead. She kicked at the top of the straight and put a break on the field but could not fend off the late lunge of the winner on her outside. A good effort in defeat.
