Sydney Timeform Recap- April 23 & 25

3 minute read

Sydney racing returned to Rosehill on Saturday which produced some nice winners that will more than likely head towards the Brisbane winter carnival.

Sir Bacchus

Sir Bacchus returned in very good order over 1200m in the first on the programme, when coming from last to take the rails run and score an impressive 2.5L victory over So Willie in second with Dark Steele third.

The Chris Waller-trained runner returned a career peak Timeform figure of 103p, two pounds above his effort in the Gold Coast Guineas behind Mahuta before a spell.

Sir Bacchus has now won three of his six outings and will head to Brisbane for some feature races and also has plenty of scope for improvement.

The Racing and Sports Field Strength value of 99.6 was the second highest of the day and if the three-year-old gelding can continue to improve he certainly looks capable of running a figure that will be very competitive in group and listed company.

Sir Bacchus ran the second fastest final 200m of the day (10.98) with the last 600m (33.85) run slightly inside standard.

Of the beaten brigade So Willie at the big price of $40 ran to a new career peak of 94, three pounds above his Canterbury win three starts back with Dark Steel returning a figure of 92 as well, his highest since the Blue Sapphire Stakes in October of last year.

High Midnight

High Midnight was able to grab his second win in as many starts when holding on for a tight victory over His Majesty in second with Spy Decoder third in the Bowermans Furniture Benchmark 83 (1500m).

High Midnight ran to a new career peak Timeform figure of 104, six pounds above his win two starts back and his highest since a midfield finish in the G3 Lexus Stakes at Flemington last spring.

The RSFS of 102.3 was the highest of the day and slightly above average for a Benchmark 83 race.

High Midnight could line up next in a race like the Scone Guineas which was last year taken out by Loved Up who returned a figure of 104.

Since 2010 Taxmeifyoucan is the lowest rating gelding or colt to take out the guineas returning a figure of 107 in 2013.

Still open to further improvement, High Midnight looks capable of improving enough to be competitive in such a race.

Of the placegetters, His Majesty ran to a career peak rating of 101 with Spy Decoder running to his mark of 100.

Metropolitan racing continued into Anzac Day at Randwick on Monday which saw a couple impressive winners come out of the meeting.

Lady Le Fay

Lady Le Fay appreciated the sharp drop in grade with a very narrow win over Weary with Destiny’s Kiss third.

Having returned a career peak Timeform figure of 104 when fourth in the Group 1 Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m), the Chris Waller-trained runner backed that effort up with 104p on Monday.

The RSFS value of 109.8 is above the average for an open race and about on par with that of a listed race.

Weary, who carried the 61kg, returned to form with his narrow second whilst Destiny’s Kiss also ran up to his best form in third making it a pretty handy race going forward.

Supply And Demand was able to hold up the Sir Bacchus form when returning with a good win after settling back in the field.

Both Sir Bacchus and Supply And Demand made up the quinella at Canterbury late last year in what has now proven to be a good form race.

The Gai Waterhouse-trained runner showed good ability in debut campaign, breaking through before a spell and ran to a new career peak of 89p on Monday, one pound above his debut win.

Supply And Demand was able to get the better of Sangiovese who resumed off two wins in debut campaign.

Sangiovese produced a figure two pounds below her Hawkesbury win and these two look the ones to follow out of the race with Beau Tirage in third running below his previous best.
