Dalby racecourse is situated 211 kilometres west of Brisbane and is at the geographical heart of southern Queensland. Located at the crossroads to Toowoomba, Kingaroy, Roma, Mundubbera and Goondiwindi, Dalby racecourse is the home of the Dalby and Northern Downs Jockey Club. The original Dalby racecourse dates from 1859 and featured a black soil surface. Known as Bunya Park racecourse and located close to the town centre, the track was converted to turf In the early 1900s.

Dalby racecourse has a circumference of 1600 metres and has a home straight of 300 metres. Races are conducted over distances from 800m to 2000m with unique features being two long starting chutes. The 800m starting chute provides a straight run of 500 metres to the home turn while the long chute at the back of the that joins the course proper 900m from the finish caters for races over 1000m, 1200m and 1400m. Dalby and Northern Downs Jockey Club conduct regular race meetings each month at Dalby racecourse with the highlight of the year being the Dalby Newmarket run in March.
