History
The Colonel Reeves Stakes is a Group 3 race run under Set Weights and Penalty conditions for the open class sprinters at Ascot conducted by Perth Racing.
The Colonel Reeves Stakes is run over 1100m. It was first run in 1984 and was won by Heron Bridge.
It is a vital local lead up to the G1 Winterbottom Stakes run a fortnight later.
The Colonel Reeves Stakes was run over 1200m until 2009 when back to 1100m.
Initially a Listed race, the Colonel Reeves Stakes was a Group 3 from 2005.
Vega Magic won in 2016 and took the Scahill before transferring to Lindsay Park where he scored multiple G1 wins including The Goodwood and Memsie Stakes.
Celebrity Queen came from a long way back on a wet track to win in 2020 and while she didn't win a big one in Perth, she dead heated in the Oakleigh Plate in 2021.
From winning the Winterbottom in 2020, Elite Street came back in 2021 to win a string of races including the Crawford, Prince Of Wales and Colonel Reeves as well as the Northam Stakes and Roma Cup.
2003 running was at Belmont racecourse.
The Colonel Reeves Stakes was worth $200,000 in 2024.
