History
The Gong is a Group 3 race for the milers run under Quality conditions at Kembla Grange conducted by the Illawarra Turf Club.
The Gong is run over 1600m. It was first run in 2019 and was won by Mister Sea Wolf.
The Gong is the equal richest race run in the provincial region of NSW.
The Gong was upgraded to Group 3 from 2024.
Apart from a local win by Count De Rupee in 2021, it has been the big stables to have won the race.
The Gong was worth $1,000,000 in 2024.
Notable winners of The Gong include Gringotts (2024), Detonator Jack (2023), Riodini (2022), Count De Rupee (2021), Archedemus (2020) and Mister Sea Wolf (2019).
The 2024 Gong was won by Gringotts from Suparazi and Steparty.
