Gelding hands Medaglia d'Oro his 140th stakes winner
The Andre Fabre-trained Magny Cours (5 g ex Indy Five Hundred by A.P. Indy) got the better of last year’s Poule d'Essai des Poulains (Gr 1, 1600m) winner and stablemate Persian King (Kingman) in the Prix de Montretout (Listed, 1600m) at Chantilly on Wednesday and in the process provided former shuttler Medgalia d’Oro (El Prado) with his 140th stakes winner.
The five-year-old gelding stayed on all the way to the line to beat Persian King by a short-neck with another with another six lengths back to Queen (Kingman) in third.
Magny Cours gelding is out of Grade 1-winning Indy Five Hundred (A.P.Indy), making him a half-brother Listed winner Albert Park (Street Sense) and Magical Crown (Distorted Humor) - the dam of Listed winner Good Effort (Shamardal).
Indy Five Hundred is herself out of Group 2 winner Lyphard’s Delta (Lyphard), making her a half-sister to Group 1 winner Biondetti (Bernardini) and Delta Princess (A.P. Indy) - the dam of multiple Grade 1 winner Royal Delta (Empire Maker), fellow elite level winners Delta Prince (Street Cry) and Carnival Court (Street Sense).
Medaglia d’Oro shuttled to Australia for eight seasons, but did not return in 2018 and he is now represented by his sire sons Astern, who stands at Darley’s Kelvinside Base, Rosemont Stud-based sire Nostradamus and Coolmore Stud first-season sire Vancouver.
Earlier at Chantilly, Soldier Hollow (In the Wings) sired his 42nd stakes winner as Wangari (3 f ex Wamika by Shirocco) landed the Prix Finlande (Listed, 1800m) at Chantilly.
Wangari beat Vadsena (Makfi) by a length and a quarter with another length back to Maccaja (Havana Gold) in third.
Purchased for €43,000 at the Baden-Baden October Sale, the filly is out of two-time winner Wamika (Shirocco), making her a sister to Group 3 winner Whispering Angel.
Wamika herself is a half-sister to Wai Key Star (Soldier Hollow) and further back this is family of Group 1 Waky Nao (Alzao).
In the next race on the card, Distorted Humor (Forty Niner) added a new stakes winner to his CV taking his stakes-winning tally to 156, as Ebaiyra (3 f ex Ebiyza by Rock of Gibraltar) broke her maiden at the third time of asking in the Prix de Royaumont (Gr 3, 2400m).
Bred and raced by HH The Aga Khan, Ebaiyra clearly appreciated the step up in trip and she beat American Apples (American Post) by two and a half lengths with Mozzarella (Power) another length and three quarters further back in third.
The three-year-old filly is out of Group 2 winner Ebiyza (Rock of Gibraltar), who has also produced Listed winner Edisa (Kitten’s Joy). Her third dam is the dual Group 1 winner Ebadiyla (Sadler’s Wells).
