Stud plans to be announced for the Charlie Appleby-trained Classic winner in due course

Godolphin has announced the retirement of last year's Group 1 Irish 2000 Guineas (1m) winner Native Trail (Oasis Dream). 

Unbeaten in four starts as a juvenile, culminating in a victory in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes (7f) at Newmarket in October 2021, Native Trail returned as a three-year-old, taking out the Group 3 Craven Stakes (1m). He ran second in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket before his Irish Classic success three weeks later. 

Last seen finishing eight in Tuesday's Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes (1m) at Royal Ascot, Native Trail retires from racing the winner of six of his 11 career starts with his earnings totalling just over £1 million. 

Liam O'Rourke, director of studs, stallions and breeding for Darley, said: "Native Trail's had an exceptional career and owes us nothing. We feel now is the time to retire him and he will take up stud duties in 2024."

Native Trail exchanged hands a number of times in his early years. He was a €50,000 buy by Sam Sangster at the 2019 Arqana December Sale. As a yearling he was bought for 67,000gns by Mags O'Toole and Oak Tree Farm at the following year's Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1. He was then bought by Godolphin for 210,000gns at the 2021 Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up Sale. 

The colt is out of the unraced mare Needleleaf (Observatory), a sister to Group 1 winner African Rose who in turn produced Frankel's (Galileo) first Group winner Fair Eva.
