Catch up on the weekend's new stakes winners from the US and Europe
Le Havre
Leading French stallion Le Havre (Noverre) was provided with his 35th stakes winner on Saturday as the Shadwell Stud-owned Motamarris (4 c ex Thamarat by Anabaa) landed the Prix de Compiegne (Listed, 2000m) at Compiegne. The four-year-old, who finished third in the Prix du Jockey Club (Gr 1, 2100m) last season, beat Roc Angel (Rock Of Gibraltar) by four lengths with another short-neck back to Top Max (Joshua Tree) in third. Le Havre stood Montfort et Preaux for a fee of €50,000 in 2020.
Intense Focus
The Jean-Pierre Carvalho-trained Aviateur (5 c ex Attachante by Teofilo) landed the Grand Prix - Grosser Preis der Wirtschaft (Gr 3, 1800m) and became the ninth stakes winner for Intense Focus (Giant’s Causeway). The five-year-old beat Potemkin (New Approach) by three-quarters of a length with another length and a quarter back to Zavaro (Areion) in third.
Violence
The Hill 'N Dale Farms-based sire Violence (Medaglia d’Oro) was handed his second elite level winner when No Parole (3 c ex Plus One by Bluegrass Cat) won the Woody Stephens Stakes presented by Claiborne Farm (Gr 1, 7f) at Belmont on Saturday. Purchased for US$75,000 by Maggi Moss at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the Select Sales draft, the three-year-old colt beat Echo Town (Speightstown) by three and three quarter lengths with another length and three quarters back to Shoplifted (Into Mischief) in third. No Parole joins Dandy Del Barrio as the stallion’s other stakes winners and he stood at stud in 2020 for a fee of US$25,000.
Style Vendome
Haras du Grand Courgeon-based sire Style Vendome (Anabaa) was handed his fourth stakes winner on Sunday as his daughter Styledargent (4 g ex Feriadargent, by Kendargent) landed the Grand Prix de Lyon (Listed, 2400m) at Lyon-Parilly. The four-year-old gelding defeated Sublimis (Shamardal) by a length with another length and three-quarters back to Ateem (Dark Angel) in third. Style Vendome’s quartet of stakes winners include Prix Marcel Boussac (Gr 1, 1600m) Lily’s Candle and he stood at stud for a fee of €2,500 in 2020.
Areion
Gestut Etzean-based sire Areion (Big Shuffle) sired his 46th stakes winner on Sunday when Lacade (3 f ex La Sabara by Sabiango) landed the German 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) at Duesseldorf on Sunday. The Yasmin Almenrader-trained three-year-old beat No Limit Credit (Night Of Thunder) into second with Rose Of Kildare (Make Believe) in third. Areion stood for a fee of €12,500 in 2020.
Poet’s Voice
The late Darley sire Poet’s Voice (Dubawi) sired his 19th stakes winner courtesy of One Voice’s (3 f ex Zaaqya by Nayef) victory in the Blue Wind Stakes (Gr 3, 1m2f) at Leopardstown on Sunday. The Jessica Harrington-trained filly was purchased by BBA Ireland for €55,000 at the 2018 Goffs Ireland Sportsman's Yearling Sale and she defeated Snow (Galileo) by half a length with another two and a quarter lengths back to Yaxeni (Maxios) in third. Poet’s Voice’s progeny is headed by two Group 1 winners; Poet’s Word and Trap For Fools, who landed the LKS Mackinnon Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) in 2018. The stallion died of a heart attack in 2018.
