Kent Filly A Special At Kilmore

3 minute read

Special Miss made a good start to life under new trainer Mick Kent and she can deliver a first success for the yard when she steps out at Kilmore today.

Special Miss started her career under Mark Kavanagh but a trio of modest efforts saw her sent north where she knocked up five wins in sixteen starts for the Hunter Kilner stable.

Her best form came at and around the mile and it was just short of a mile at Sandown that she made her debut for Mick Kent.

There she settled just worse than midfield, before tracking up and running to within a length of the winner, the effort rated just a pound short of her best to this point.

The first two home there are in good form at this level and the form looks good for a race like the one Special Miss tackles today.

The query would be her plain second-up record to this point but that is curbed somewhat by the record of her new trainer in this situation.

Mick Kent strikes at 18% second-up, well ahead of his 13% strike-rate first-up, and his record at Kilmore is worthy of note.

Kent saddles them up at 24% at Kilmore, well up on his overall strike-rate of 16% and this season alone he is striking at 36% at the course with a POT of +20.9%.

It’s been a happy hunting ground for the yard and there is plenty to suggest that the record can be further built upon this afternoon.

It’s an even race away from her with the lightly raced Lord Ore and the honest Very Suave two that have to be respected.

Lord Ore has to put his latest behind him and get to building on his decent maiden win prior but he has upside than many here lack and has to be respected on that front alone.

He faces a task to knock off an on-song Special Miss, though, and hence Mick Kent’s mare is a confident selection.
