THOROUGHBREDS
There is no doubt this bloke is going well, but he looks well found in the market. Flashing light run last start when held-up with the race shape against, he savaged the line when clear. He's well exposed with 44 starts on the board and doesn't win out of turn. Map looks tricky and he's been up for a while….
Newcastle: Race 10; #9 Battleton
BATTLETON has opened this race up as the race favorite, but thinking given that price he is at, he may be value laying here as he doesn't feel ideally suited. He needs to take a step up in level from his last start run but the race map also feels a small risk. Drawn to the inside and not usually one to push forwards, there feels a small risk around if he ends up shuffled back on the rails in an awkward position and may be wanting for luck late in this race.
Caulfield: Race 4; #4 Catoggio
Catoggio won stylishly over the Flemington carnival but with these strong winds, I doubt being on-speed will be the advantage it was last week when he won. Coleman is clear top pick.
Kembla Grange: Race 6; #3 Slinky
Happy to be against and lay SLINKY is this open class 1 event. SLINKY last start was at Randwick on Melbourne Cup Day over the 1300m. In this race at Randwick it didn't feature at all finishing in 12th position with no excuses I can see. Even though it coming back to the provincials here at Kembla I don't think that the back in distance also suits. A few in the market here have trialed very well and I think they are seriously threats beating SLINKY here.
