Chris Scholtz reviews Sydney trials at Randwick on June 14 and Warwick Farm on June 17.
WARWICK FARM June 17
Inside Grass; Heavy 8
10 Heats – 2 x 1200m (1 open; 1 Maiden); 4 x 789m (2 Open; 2 2YO); 4 x 786m (2 2YO; 2 Maiden)
Promising efforts from several Godolphin runners and a sharp win by a new arrival from New Zealand.
ABERLOUR (Joseph Pride): Second Sydney trial by this stakes winning filly from New Zealand where she won three of her first six starts up to 1600m. Led the fastest of the two 1200m heats and ran them along at a good clip that she sustained all the way to the line (74.60; 36.27).
AXIUS (Ciaron Maher): Unraced youngster by the boom sire Justify appeals as a coming winner after an impressive win in his 789m heat (47.59; 34.67). Having his first trial since February, he sat outside the leader and effortlessly went up another gear turning for home to put the trial to bed. Liked his action as he ran to the line under a quiet ride from Tommy Berry with his ears pricked.

CONTEMPORARY (James Cummings): A strong piece of work from this progressive 4YO to finish third in his fast 789m heat (46.77; 33.86) in his first trial since he won at the Hawkesbury Cup meeting six weeks ago. He's already the winner of four races and the manner of his work to finish off under a strong hold has him primed to add to that record.
TARPAULIN (James Cummings): Showed potential in his only start early in the season and we picked up the resuming trial by this Harry Angel youngster at this course on May 21 for the blackbook. This effort to finish second his 786m heat (47.55; 34.66) confirmed that he is in the right form to make an impression in the late season 2YO races. Tracked wide and was very deep on the turn but was always travelling strongly and never came off the bit running home under a hard grip from James McDonald.

Some nice rising 3YO prospects emerging from the Waterhouse/Bott and Snowden stables.
FORTINGALL (Gai Waterhouse/Adrian Bott): Unraced colt by I Am Invincible has now won two of his three trials with this effort his best to date. The fastest 1050m heat (63.59; 34.60) was a competitive affair and featured some nice efforts behind him, not the least being the closers DEVIL'S THROAT and the import ALASHAR with the latter one to follow as he works towards longer distances.
