Beauty Generation returns to winning ways in The Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup.
Beauty Generation (7 g Road To Rock - Stylish Bel by Bel Esprit) returned to winning ways on Sunday when he won The Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup (Gr 1, 7f) at Sha Tin.
Winning for the first time since landing the Celebration Cup (Gr 3, 7f) on October 1, Beauty Generation scored a half-length victory over Ka Ying Star (Cityscape), with Hot King Prawn (Denman) another length back in third.
"The defeats have been disappointing but they hadn't been by any great margin," winning trainer John Moore said after collecting the trophy for the fourth time in a row and eleventh time in his career.
"I said to the staff that we just had to try a few things a little bit different, just to tweak his mind and get him thinking that he can win races. We managed to do that by taking off the blinkers, putting on the side winkers and the bit-lifter.
"I jumped him out of the gate on Thursday morning," he continued. "I did a lot of things with him trying to not stick to the same pattern as we'd had in the lead-up to the big races in the past. It was quite a different prep."
Sunday's victory took Beauty Generation's race record to 19 wins, eight of those at Group 1 level, and 11 placings from 36 starts with his prize money now sitting at almost HK$100,000,000. He was bought for NZ$60,000 by Hermes Syndications at the 2014 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.
Bred in New Zealand, Beauty Generation is out of the unraced Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) mare Stylish Bel who is a half-sister to the Listed winners Victory Trump (Euclase) and Savage Attack (Made Of Gold).
In Sunday's other Group 1 race at Sha Tin, Time Warp (7 g Archipenko - Here To Eternity by Stormy Atlantic) scored his third victory at Group 1 level when he captured the Hong Kong Gold Cup (Gr 1, 2000m).
Winner of the Hong Kong Cup (Gr 1, 2000m) and the 2018 running of the Hong Kong Gold Cup, Time Warm under Joao Moreira defeated his Tony Cruz-trained stablemate Exultant (Teofilo) by three quarters of a length with Citron Spirit (Invincible Spirit) another length back in third.
"That was a big surprise! I was expecting Exultant to win the race," Cruz said.
"I said to Joao 'make sure you don't touch his hind quarter' because he will put the brakes on.
"Joao knows this horse and it's very simple – he goes to the front and he likes to dictate the race and have everything his own way. If he's still in front going into the straight he's very difficult to run down."
The runner-up is likely to head to Dubai next month for the Sheema Classic (Gr 1, 2400m).
Bred by Kirsten Rausing, Time Warp has now won 12 of his 42 career stars and been placed a further nine times for earning of almost HK$40,000,000. He is a brother to fellow Hong Kong Cup winner Glorious Forever being out of the winning Stormy Atlantic (Storm Cat) mare Here To Eternity.
His second dam is the German Listed winner Heat Of The Night (Lear Fan) who is herself a daughter of the Brazilian Group winner Hot Thong (Jarraar).
