Inglis Easter graduate Majmu firmly cemented her position as the best filly in South Africa with an emphatic victory in the G1 Cape Fillies Guineas at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Fellow Inglis graduate Mitraad also scored at stakes level in South Africa, while back in Australia five black type races were won across four different tracks by Inglis graduates on Saturday.
Danger Close won in Melbourne, Whitlam saluted in Adelaide, Liberty’s Gem scored in Perth and stakes victories were recorded in Brisbane by Savoureaux and Big Money.Majmu (Redoute’s Choice x Spontaneous) was the star of the show cruising away to a two and a half length win in South Africa’s feature event under jockey Anthony Delpech for trainer Mike de Kock, owner HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the Shadwell Team.
“I thought she won in facile fashion. The J & B Met here at the end of next month is definitely in our thinking. I will talk to Angus Gold and it might be her last race in South Africa,” said de Kock.“We will definitely export her because I think she is well capable of winning a Group 1 overseas,” proclaimed de Kock.
Bred by Arrowfield Pastoral, Majmu was purchased by Shadwell racing manager Angus Gold for $300,000 from Arrowfield Stud’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.Majmu, the 27th Group 1 winner for champion sire Redoute’s Choice, was crowned Champion 2YO Filly in South Africa last season following three wins from three starts. Her dam Spontaneous (by Hussonet) was a Group 1 winner in South America and Majmu is her second foal.
Six other Inglis stakes winners on Saturday were:Mitraad (Northern Meteor x Fondle) scored in the Listed Secretariat Stakes over 1400m at Turffontein in South Africa. The Mike de Kock trained three-year-old is another successful Shadwell Australia purchase as the colt was selected by Angus Gold from Attunga Stud’s draft at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $210,000.
Liberty’s Gem (Statue of Liberty x All That Sparkles) won the Group 3 WATC Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic over 1400m at Ascot in Perth. The colt was initially purchased from the draft of Cornerstone Stud at the 2012 Great Southern Weanling Sale before then consigned by Queensland’s Jorson Farm at the 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Aquanita Racing for $80,000. The Simon Miller-trained gelding has now recorded four wins and a second for owners Mr D J White, Mr P W Jones and Mrs R E Jones.Big Money (Choisir x Lyn's Money) recorded victory in the Group 3 BRC George Moore Stakes over 1200m at Doomben in Brisbane. Rod Northam’s talented sprinter was offered at 2011 Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale from the draft of Middlebrook Valley Lodge where he was knocked down for $75,000. Saturday’s win took his earning’s past $450,000 thanks to eight wins from 14 starts for connections Mr P J Gunter, Mrs L M Gunter, Mr C G Wallace, Mrs T L Wallace.
Savoureux (Nadeem x Ripe Plum) also won at Doomben taking out the Listed BRC Shelley Dale OHS Mode Stakes over 1200m. A $65,000 purchase by Joe O’Neill’s Prime Thoroughbreds from Edinglassie Stud’s 2013 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale Summer Book draft, the Balmoral Operations bred filly has a record of three wins and two second placed efforts from five starts under trainer Kris Lees.Danger Close (Written Tycoon x Galactic Honour), a $36,000 purchase from the draft of Northern Lodge Stud at the 2011 Inglis Autumn Yearling Sale by Jason Warren Racing, won the Listed MRC Emma Booth Christmas Cup over 1000m at Sandown in Melbourne. Saturday’s victory took Danger Close’s earnings past $200,000 for owners Ms Y Warren, A Cartel, Ms M Cartel, B Harrison, P J W Van Der Reyden, R Garsed, G Anderson, D Bevan, Hamish Jones, G Hannan & Cooper Bros Syndicate (Mgr John Cooper).
Whitlam (Elusive Quality x Weaver of Words) saluted in the Listed SAJC City Of Marion Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville in Adelaide.
