Young sire O'Lonhro's hot run on the track has been capped by the naming of his star son O'Lonera as the VOBIS Horse of the Year.
O’Lonera has emerged as a black type prospect with a streak of three impressive Melbourne over 2000m on July 16, 2400m on June 30 and 2000m on July 13.
He races for his breeder Mrs L.B. Alderson and the Horsin Around syndicate and is trained at Cranbourne by Cindy Alderson.He is the eighth winner from Danera, a Danehill mare who ran three times for a win at Cranbourne.
Danera is a daughter of Imposera, a magnificent racemare by the Todman sire Imposing whose seven wins included the Caulfield Cup, Wakeful Stakes and Australasian Oaks.O’Lonhro is a G2 Chelmsford Stakes winner by Lonhro from the multiple Group winner Mamzelle Pedrille, a sister to the grandam of I Am Invincible.
He has enjoyed a great run of success since the start of the new racing season including a double on August 26 at Geelong and Canberra.Debutant King Of The Ark created a big impression at Geelong when the Vincent Malady trained four-year-old won a 1000m maiden.
The immature colt raced away to salute by a soft 3 1/4 lengths beat the G2-placed favourite Lionhearted."He looks promising," Malady said, adding that he has only had the bay in his care for six weeks.
A home-bred for Howard Simpson, King Of The Ark is a son of the two times winning Danetrice mare Samurtriark.Talented O'Lonhro four-year-old Vella Lonchick was in winning form at Canberra, storming home from the rear in a 1200m benchmark contest.
Vella Lonchick is a mare who has always shown plenty of ability, charging home to easily win a two-year-old contest at Canberra in June last year.Unfortunately she was injured, fracturing her wither and requiring a long process of recuperation.
The previous week O'Lonhro was represented by another exciting debutant, the four-year-old O'Lonh Starsaluting as a short priced favourite at Devenport while The Big Oh, a Larneuk Stud home-bred, looked the goods breaking his maiden at Cowra.At Sale Big Phil won his maiden over 1200m at just his third outing for trainer Greg Eurell, who also bred the promising bay.
Larneuk Stud stands O'Lonhro alongside Ilovethiscity and Cluster.
