Western Australia’s Scenic Lodge has a reliable source to hold the fort following the death of champion sire Blackfriars.

Blackfriars died last week at the age of 21 after breaking his leg following a colic operation. The classic wining son of Danehill had dominated local breeding winning the last seven WA sires premierships.

Blackfriars sired over 400 individual winners of over 1300 races including the outstanding G1 winners Black Heart Bart and Playing God.

Scenic Lodge will now look to the accomplished Snippetson to fil the void left by Blackfriars.

A former Hunter Valley stallion, Snippetson sired the most winners in WA (97) and his progeny won more races (155) in 2016-17.

“Snippetson is a leader in his own right,” said Scenic Lodge manager Jeremy Smith.

“Losing Blackfriars was a terrible shock but Snippetson is a proven sire. He’s been averaging over 80 mares a season since arriving here in 2015.”

Snippetson was responsible for last Saturday’s Warwick Farm winner Raijinz, the first winner from NZ-bred mare Jack’s Girl (Shovhog), a half-sister to the Doomben stakes winner Jasminka.

Snippetson has a half-brother to G1 winner Silent Sedition being offered at the Gold Coast Magic Millions in January. He has another 26 yearlings catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions in February.
