Classic winner Night Of Thunder added to a fine year for his champion sire Dubawi when he won the G1 Lockinge Stakes at his first 4YO appearance at Newbury on Saturday.
Dubawi is enjoying an outstanding year with Night Of Thunder being his fourth G1 winner in 2015.
He has sired 16 black type winners with a further 17 of his progeny placed at stakes level.Later on the Newbury card Dubawi's three-year-old daughter Crystal Zvezda landed the Listed Fillies' Trial Stakes by three-and-a-half-lengths to make her one of the favourites for Oaks at Epsom next month.
Night Of Thunder, who won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket last year, is one of 17 G1 winners by Dubawi, the 13-year-old son of the ill-fated Dubai Millennium.It is expected the four-year-old will join Dubawi and his paternal half-brother Poet's Voice on the Darley roster next year, raising the possibility that he serve time in Australasia.
This was Night Of Thunder's first win for Godolphin, having previously raced for Saeed Manana.He was unbeaten as a two-year-old, rounding off his season with an impressive victory in the Listed Doncaster Stakes and was second in the Greenham Stakes on his three-year-old debut.
He then beat Kingman to take the 2,000 Guineas and notched three further places at G1 level last year in the Prix du Moulin and QEII Stakes.Night Of Thunder was purchased by Rabbah Bloodstock for only 32,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2012.
He is the only foal out of the stakes placed Galileo mare Forest Storm, who died in 2012.Forest Storm descends from Irish 1000 Guineas winner Forest Flower.
Crystal Zveda is out of the stakes-winning Mark Of Esteem mare Crystal Star, making her a half-sister to G1 winner Hillstar and multiple Group winner Crystal Capella.
