Frisson takes the Road to the Chest

3 minute read

Tuesday’s TAB Federal Road to the Chest (1300m) has attracted a quality field of country sprinters who will look to automatically qualify for the $200,000 Canberra Community Chest to be run on Saturday, 25 November.

The TAB Federal Road to the Chest headlines a strong nine-race Melbourne Cup Day card and Canberra Trainer Garry Kirkup thinks his entrant is the one they all have to beat.

Frisson looks to have returned in great order this time in, producing an impressive first up performance to win over 1100m at Wellington. The son of Deep Field hadn’t won first up prior and often takes nice  improvement second up.

“I couldn’t believe the price we got.” Kirkup said about the $8.50 bet about Frisson. “He’s pulled up incredible too, he’s just a beast, a real powerhouse.”

Drawn perfectly in barrier three under Matthew Cahill, Frisson will likely take up the running but Kirkup  is happy to sit behind one if something decides to take him on and overdo it.

“I’m pretty sure we’ll lead or be second from that gate, it’s a great barrier, he’s well weighted and  we’ve got a great jockey on-board.”

“He looks like he’s come back even better this preparation which is very exciting, he’s going to be hard  to beat here.”

Frisson will likely target the Canberra Community Chest should he win tomorrow.

The Road to the Chest is one of two races which hold ballot exemptions into the Canberra Community Chest with Gundagai’s Snake Gully Cup (1400m) also providing a free ticket into the feature.

The Canberra Community Chest, which also features a $50,000 community chest for charity partners, is joined on Saturday, 25 November by the Affinity Electrical Technologies Single Gaze (1200m), a  Fillies and Mares Benchmark 75.
