ABLE FAST (Hawkes Partnership) - It was easy to see why this imposing Fastnet Rock colt brought $500,000 as a yearling when he made his race debut at Rosehill last Saturday. Looking new and unfancied in the betting, he ran a mighty race to be edged out in a close finish by the highly regarded Velrosso. He's a terrific type who will be seen at his best next season with the benefit of experience and maturity.

ZAHAR (Bart Cummings) - Made his debut at Flemington last week and worked home OK behind the in form Spurcific down the straight. Was never ever going to be a contender for a race like that being by a miler in Caulfield Guineas winner God's Own out of a Melbourne Cup placegetter in Zazabelle. He might take 12 months but we suspect there is nice ability there and might end up a lovely 2000m horse.

GLIDING (Bart Cummings) - The half-sister to Eremein made a nice debut running third at Canterbury on the slow track during the week. She got back and worked to the line in a manner which makes you think at the worst the mile will be her go. Experience will give her confidence and a bigger track only brings that on. Keep a close eye on her progress.

CARBON TAIKUN (Chris Waller) - The son of Lonhro and Legally Bay has only had one run back in March and was defeated on the Kenso by Uate. After a break has had two trials at Rosehill and will be primed to improve sharply. The breed tend to race better as 3yos but sprinting is usually their go and wet tracks are no drawback either.

PECK (Peter Snowden) - Now that he has finally hit the boards after some runs out of the action, he might get the appetite for winning. Sure it wasn't the strongest 3yo race at Rosehill but given Snowden indicted he might go again before spell to lift his rating, I can think of a race he might contest. Why not bite the bullet and run him in the Grafton Cup. He seems grounded enough for it and 3yos can win that race at the end of the season. A win like that at black type will do more for him into the future, getting him into better races as a 4yo than taking another Saturday metro race in town.
