Please find below their best for the weekend based on recent trials.
MIRAGE - Away well from the outside. Showed very good speed and poured the pressure on. Ridden out and extended well when asked. Given a solid hitout and extended very well. Stylish win in good time and worth monitoring.
SUMMARY
Rosehill with the rail in the true position on a slightly rain affected surface. Monitor track conditions but hoping it plays fairly.
Handicap over 1400m here and an interesting but moderately sized field. Speed should be genuine, if not better, with our blackbooker MIRAGE the likely leader from KING COBIA and BEAUTY’S BEAST who led at this track and distance successfully in December.
Tempo will no doubt be the key to the race. MIRAGE is the likely leader and his main danger YOU’LL NEVER, likely to get back.
YOU’LL NEVER has been racing superbly of a let up, winning his last two. He has now risen again in the weights but from barrier three he should get plenty of favours. If the pace is on he looks a major player and the main danger to our blackbooker.
Loved the way MIRAGE trialled leading into this on May 29. He beat Idance by some 7 lengths and that horse has since run very well. He did things wrong when running off the track in the 2nd to Beyond Thankful last start (hence the need to trial) and with the weight relief and the 4kg off YOU’LL NEVER he may just be the horse to beat if doing all things right. As stated, tempo the key but confident MIRAGE will be hard to topple.
BEAUTY’S BEAST was a bit disappointing last start but may get things in his favour today. The claim for Winona Costin may be important and as stated, he is a winner at this track and distance only 4 starts ago. No shock to see him pull out a run.
RUGGED CROSS was good last start and gets a weight relief from YOU’LL NEVER when beaten two back. The gelding is definitely racing well enough to be respected here.
Interesting little race but happy to side with MIRAGE here.
