Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Rosehill Race 2 - 10 Perfect Dare
Fastnet Rock gelding was having just his fourth start and first in Sydney when he was narrowly beaten by the promising We’re Sure over 1200m at this course on October 31.
With his expected improvement his talented trainer Matt Dunn has made what could be a winning move by engaging claiming apprentice Regan Bayliss, giving him a handy weight advantage over his main rivals in a very even field.
Rosehill Race 6 - 7 Fiftyshadesofgrey
Generous odds on offer for this honest mare who has been racing well through the spring in better company without much luck.
Her chances weren’t helped at her last start over this course and distance on October 31 when she struck the rail at the 80m but recovered well to be beaten only 1.2 lengths by the in-form Alart.
With a switch to claiming apprentice Jess Taylor she will get in under the limit and will meet Alart on a massive 6.5kg better terms, surely enough to make her good value gamble.
Rosehill Race 9 - 13 Duca Valentinois
Godolphin import was heavily backed to start at short odds at his Australian debut over 1350m at this course on October 31 after showing plenty in two impressive trials.
Could finish only third but was doing his best work through the line and expect him to be much better suited stepping up to this trip with 3kg less weight in keeping with his UK form where his best performances were from 1400m to 2000m.
