Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Randwick Race 5 - 4 Cellargirl
There’s no standout among Sydney’s 3YO fillies - at least nothing obvious in this Flight Stakes - which gives this progressive Queenslander a great chance to get over the top of this field after an impressive third in her Sydney debut in the Tea Rose Stakes (1400m).
That’s the key form race and her scope for improvement over the extra 200m makes her a worthy gamble against the pair who beat her home last time.
Randwick Race 8 - 9 Life Less Ordinary
No doubt he’s the weight horse in The Metropolitan after his game third in the Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) as he meets stablemates Libran and Antonio Giuseppe up to 4kg better.
Built a strong staying record in the UK including wins at 2800m and 3200m and the timing of his preparation has him ready to peak for his first 2400m test in Australia.
Suspect this strong mare will have taken a lot of benefit from her first-up third over this course and distance on September 16 in a race that holds up after the unplaced Sir Plush came out to win easily at Rosehill last Saturday.
She’s well off with a 3kg drop in weight against several rivals from that event and counting on Joao Moreira to weave some of his magic as she is drawn to get the sweet run from her ideal inside draw.
