Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts
R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.
SELECTIONS
Rosehill Race 3 - 9 Biodynamic
This Danny Williams-trained import makes history as he will certainly be the first ever English Derby starter to line up in a Highway event.
On that score alone he bears attention, more so as he looks ready to find his better UK form after mixing his recent distances when obviously not suited on heavy tracks. Dropped back sharply in trip for his last start over 1210m at Moruya and clearly found that too short when he ran home from last under 60kg with his rider warned by stewards for his lack of vigour.
Holds ample scope to improve and his 4kg drop in weight over this more suitable distance with a positive rider engagement makes him a worthy gamble at his generous early odds.
Rosehill Race 8 - 12 Drachenfels
This is a cracking Benchmark 90 with the barrier draw opening the race up to a number of chances.
From gate three it can fall into place for this talented Godolphin runner who flies when second up and is certain to be much improved by his first-up fifth over this same course and distance two weeks ago when he blew his chances with a tardy start.
He was ridden up to hold a position and it was no surprise that he peaked on his run at the 100m but this time, given a fair start, he can enjoy all the favours.
Rosehill Race 9 - 12 Bella Success
Has been screaming to win a race since resuming but little has gone right for her in all four starts, especially her last two outings when placed at Randwick under similar conditions.
She’s on the quick back up from last Saturday when she got clear too late for a fast finishing third and while she stays at 1200m the speed in this field sets up nicely for her to enjoy a kind run. Counting on her to relish racing on her home track for the first time in her career.
