From the beaten jockeys – Newmarket & 3YO Cup

3 minute read

It was a brilliant night of racing in Launceston on Wednesday night, headlined by the win of Geegees Gemstone in the Newmarket, and Ms Tasmania in the 3YO Cup.

Newmarket Handicap

Craig Newitt – The Inevitable (2nd) He was terrific. From the gate he jumped good, tried to hold a spot, tempo of the race made it into a real test. Good luck beating him for the rest of the carnival.

Bulent Muhcu – Alvarinho (3rd) Very big run. Very encouraging for going to the fillies & mares races in the future.

Troy Baker – Thespian Waters (4th) Brilliant run. He didn't show the same turn of foot as he did first-up. Just thinking he needs 1400 and he's a better horse at Hobart.

Lauryn Bingley – And Beyond (5th) He ran great. First-up today, he probably peaked on his run a bit but he'll be there second-up.

Liam Riordan – Kaliuwaa Falls (6th) Thought he acquitted himself very well in this company first-up over 1200.

Codi Jordan – First Accused (7th) This horse was super. When that bit of daylight opened up I thought here we are again, we're going to win the Newmarket again, but he just hit the line like a 1400 or a miler, and those horses had already gained momentum down the outside.

Erica Byrne Burke – Jaguar Stone (8th) She was as honest as ever. A bit run off her feet early and just got stuck for a bit of room in the straight.

Mehmet Ulucinar – Indispensable (9th) He was a bit slow away which gave him no chance but he hit the line the last 200 and I'm very happy.

Chloe Wells – Hype (10th) Ran super. Just run off his legs early but made really good ground up the straight, he'll be exciting over further.

Luke Currie – Bello Beau (11th) Just stuck wide on a hot speed and couldn't win from there.

Jackson Radley – Tsunami Sam (12th) Thought he ran a pretty good race really. Had to use a bit of petrol getting around from the 16 but just not enough left late.

Chelsea Baker – Galenus (13th) Little bit disappointing. Led on a hot tempo but he always does that and didn't give much of a kick on the home turn.

David Pires – Swoop Dog (14th) Didn't like the visors first time. He was too busy worrying about Thespian Waters on his inside. He did get stuck a little bit wide from an outside alley but was still disappointing.

3YO Cup

Luke Currie – Magnaprime (2nd) Great effort. Raced really well, he's a very nice horse. Just got beaten in a bob today, but I think he's still improving.

David Pires – Go Jeanie (3rd) Really nice run tonight. Just sat outside the leader, just got pipped. If she can get over a trip she'll be very hard to beat in the fillies races.

Liam Riordan – Mastretta (4th) Great run. As can happen, just visors first time, missed the kick. She'll be very hard to beat next start over a bit of a trip.

Anthony Darmanin – Azonto (5th) She was enormous. Probably should've finished a lot closer. Just got one pair further back then I would've liked. Much improved run.

Chelsea Baker – Geegees Legacy (6th) I was really happy with him. I was just behind the leader there. Relaxed really nice and came to the turn, had a bit of horse there and he hit the line strong, He's just probably not quite up to this class just yet.

Craig Newitt – Native Clan (7th) I thought she ran pretty good. From an inside gate just got crossed by a roughie early which handed up, which put me three back the fence. Travelled well, she got a little outsprinted straightening, but she closed off well.

Codi Jordan – Zoete's Rock (8th) Super run. Just when they quickened away again he was a bit run off his feet, but he's going to love 1400 or a mile.

Chloe Wells – Dancing Wolf (9th) Good, just ran off her feet early from the wide gate, went back, a little bit green in behind them and found the line nicely.

Mehmet Ulucinar – Angel Sphere (10th) She missed the kick a little bit, half a length and she didn't go where she normally races, and she got a bump at the 400 and out of the race.

Jackson Radley – Wild Nights (11th) She's a lot better than what she ran tonight. I think she's had a long prep, and she'll go to the paddock now.
