Brook Road has bounced back to winning form by taking out the Benchmark 85 Cellarbrations Handicap (1100m) at Rosehill Gardens today.
Brook Road had put in a couple of Disappointing runs last preparation forcing trainer Kris Lees to tip her out to prepare her for today’s first up assignment
“Sometimes when mares are out of form you just have to put them away and start again” Lees said.
Nuclear Class was away well and went to the lead ahead of Senta De Noche with Brook Road settling midfield from a gun barrier under Group 1 winning jockey Blake Shinn and found a lovely rhythm.
Senta De Noche took over proceedings on the turn but was quickly collared by Brook road who was able to cruise to victory over the final stages.
The mare by God’s Own went on to win by 1 ½ lengths with Wonderbolt running on well for second, Kristy Lee a head away in third.
“Very good ride,” said Lees.
“Drew the gate to get a good ride, there was good tempo up front which looked likely on paper and a good soft win in the finish.
“Hopefully she is in for a good late winter.
“I do think she races good with a little bit of a gap between runs so we may look at a race like the Ramornie or there is another 1100m race her in a few weeks.”
The win takes her tally to 13 starts for six wins and four placings in earnings over $250,000.
The beaten favourite was former Sydney galloper Wonderbolt under new connections for Barbara Joseph and Paul Jones in Canberra paying
$4.40.
