Racing and Sports have scanned the stewards’ reports to find the key information punters need to know from Australian racing on Saturday June 18.

Rosehill

Dynamic Dynasty (Race 1): App. B McDougall stated, although he had to make some use of the colt to lead in the early stages, Dynamic Dynasty was somewhat disappointing and the only explanation he could offer was the colt may be better suited by being ridden with cover and, in his view, was not all that comfortable in today's soft track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer's representative Mr S Perry stated that the stable were confident of the colt's chances today, however, in his view, Dynamic Dynasty was unsuited by App. B McDougall having to make too much use of the colt in the early stages to avoid being caught wide and, as a consequence, was left without a finishing effort. When questioned in respect to a betting drift on the colt, Mr Perry stated Dynamic Dynasty had pleased the stable since its last start win at Taree on 3 June 2016 and had not missed any work or had any veterinary issues and in fact gave evidence to the Stewards of having supported Dynamic Dynasty today. Mr Perry was asked to report back on the condition of the colt subsequent to the race.

.Beyond Thankful (Race 2): rider H Bowman could offer no excuse for the disappointing performance, other than it was high weight on rain affected going. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Stable representative Mr C Duckworth advised that Beyond Thankful will now undergo an endoscopic examination, the results of which he will forward to the Stewards. The Stewards will follow up with trainer Mr C Waller on the post-race condition of the gelding.

Calaway Cruizer (Race 3): rider S Clipperton stated that he was instructed to take up a forward position on the filly, which he was able to obtain but, after settling his mount in the middle stages, it failed to travel with him from that point and, in his view, the only excuse he could offer for today's performance was the filly may have been suited when being ridden quieter over additional aground A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

She's Invincible (Race 3): when questioned in respect to his riding of the mare, App. B McDougall stated he had been instructed to have his mount in a midfield position but, after being briefly hampered in the early stages, he was then obliged to take up a trailing position behind Auckland Beauty. App. McDougall was fined the sum of $300 for failing to ride his mount out to the finish of the race (AR137(b)).

Alart (Race 4): which was laying on the offside of its barrier, began awkwardly and lost ground (2L).

Wine Tales (Race 4): slow to begin and then hampered by Bonete, which began awkwardly and shifted in. When questioned regarding his riding of the mare, in particular, after the 600m, App. A Adkins stated his instructions had been to allow his mount to settle where comfortable, but he anticipated taking up a position midfield. He further stated that he was instructed that, if possible, he should endeavour to ride Wine Tales by taking inside runs if they presented. App. Adkins stated, after following Thud into the event, when that runner did not improve near the 600m and Alart, which was positioned to his inside, commenced to give ground, he was held up on the back of those two runners and unable to improve for some distance. He added, on straightening, he shifted to the inside of Thud in order to obtain clear running, but then was held up and unable to improve between Frill Seeking and Alart, which was inclined to shift ground in the straight. App. Adkins further stated that he again attempted to obtain clear running near the 200m, but when Alart shifted ground out in advance of him, he then elected to attempt to obtain clear running to that runner's inside, but was again disappointed when Alart shifted back in slightly. Trainer Mr C Waller confirmed the instructions issued. After considering the explanation tendered by App. Adkins, the Stewards advised him that he had erred near the 200m, by not being decisive in that he should have continued to attempt to improve between Frill Seeking and Alart where, in the opinion of the Stewards, there was sufficient room to do so.

Thud (Race 4): a post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. An inquiry was opened into B Shinn's handling of the mare, with particular reference to rounding the home turn, early in the straight and approaching the 200m. After taking evidence from B Shinn and co trainer Mr Paul Snowden, the inquiry was adjourned to a date to be fixed.

Bonete (Race 4): when questioned regarding his riding rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight and, in particular, as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of Miss Tenpins sooner than he did, J Ford stated, after following Butterboom throughout the event, he contemplated shifting to the outside of Miss Tenpins, which was positioned to his outside, but as he was of the opinion he was too far up inside the heels of that runner, he elected then to remain racing on the back of Butterboom, with the intention to attempt to improve between that horse and Miss Tenpins. He added that, when Butterboom did not improve as quickly as he anticipated and Miss Tenpins held its ground, he was awkwardly placed to the inside of that runner, which then resulted in him having to steady and shift to the outside of Miss Tenpins near the 200m to obtain clear running.

Dark Steel (Race 5): reared on jumping and lost ground. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, B Shinn stated, after jumping awkwardly and losing ground at the start, he settled further back than intended. He added, in his view, the colt may be better suited by being able to race on the pace and attributed this to the main reason for today's disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Co-trainer Mr Paul Snowden agreed with B Shinn that Dark Steel is best ridden on the speed and he also indicated, in his view, is better suited on firmer tracks. Mr Snowden undertook to report back on the progress of the colt subsequent to the race.

Grande Punto (Race 6): when questioned regarding leading today, App. A Adkins stated his instructions were to take up a position midfield with cover but, more importantly, to have the gelding settle where comfortable. He added, after travelling a short distance and when crossed early, his mount was left without cover and, consequently, commenced to overrace when caught wide. He further stated, when the tempo steadied mid race, Grande Punto continued to race keenly and, despite his efforts to restrain, he was unable to do so and he elected to allow his mount to take up the lead. Trainer Mr A Denham confirmed the instructions issued and, although was disappointed to see Grande Punto race in the lead, he was satisfied with the explanation tendered by App. Adkins. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer Mr A Denham undertook to report back on the condition of the gelding subsequent to the race.

Disgraceful (Race 6): trainer Mr C Waller advised that the only excuse he could offer for the somewhat disappointing performance was that the gelding was up in weight on today's rain affected going and may have been disadvantaged by racing towards the inside of the track. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities.

Himalaya Dream (Race 7): when questioned regarding the improved performance, co-trainer Mr M Hawkes stated, as advised to the Stewards, he had been disappointed with the manner in which the gelding had been failing to finish off its races and, therefore, his instructions today were to have Himalaya Dream ridden in a quieter fashion.

Santa Rocks (Race 8): near the 300m was checked when disappointed for a run between Consign and Kontiki Dane, which shifted out slightly. Santa Rocks was then shifted back to the inside of Kontiki Dane to find clear running. Near the 150m was inconvenienced when briefly crowded by Sapphire Of Patch, which shifted out slightly. Rider App. J Innes Jr stated that he struck interference in the early part of the straight, however, in his view, Santa Rocks was not suited by the strong tempo of the race, as he was required to place his mount under pressure from the 600m to make ground on the leaders, which was sooner than he had intended. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities, other than the mare had lost its near-fore plate in running.

Moonee Valley

Vegas Strip (Race 1) - weakened in the straight. Rider Craig Newitt reported in his view the filly may have come to the end of its preparation. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and trainer Mr Mick Price confirmed the filly would now be spelled.

Turnitaround (Race 3) - raced three wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities and a swab sample was taken for analysis.

Dig A Pony (Race 4) - connections advised would be ridden more forward from the good gate; settled behind the leaders. The near side winker became detached on leaving the gates. Rider Nick Hall reported the mare lacked a desire for racing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Ma Jones (Race 4) - held up for clear running from the 500m until approaching the 300m. Bumped at the 400m by Clemency. Again had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 100m for a short distance.

Strykinglee (Race 5): raced wide without cover. Rider Luke Currie reported that after racing wide throughout, the filly was then unable to finish the race off strongly. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Kalabek (Race 6) - began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have blood from one nostril and must now gallop over 1000m in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again.

Appalachian Annie (Race 6) - rider Linda Meech reported her mount over-raced and failed to handle today’s track conditions. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a poor recovery.

Dash For Georgia (Race 7) - uncompetitive; trainer Mr Peter Ioannou was notified the filly is now barred from racing in the metropolitan area until its form improves.

Ipswich

Worthy Cause (Race 6) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse had bowed its tendon on the near foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance must be provided prior to its next race start.

Ninth Legion (Race 7) – Trainer P. Robl was fined $100 for failing to produce the ID card for the horse. Change of tactics. To be ridden in a more forward position if circumstances permit. The horse raced behind the leaders. When questioned regarding the improved performance trainer Mr P. Robl stated that its first up run in May at Scone the gelding only weakened over the concluding stages and did not handle the heavy track conditions at Rosehill at its previous start. He added that the addition of blinkers and the class of today's race contributed to the improved performance.

Scarlet Billows (Race 8) – Laid in under pressure in the straight. Jockey J. Allen reported that passing the winning post and then on pulling up and made an abnormal respiratory noise. He said he recommended to connections they consider adding a tongue-tie to the mare's gear.
