Capitalist took his first step towards a spring carnival campaign with an easy barrier trial win at Randwick on Friday.
Having his first run since winning the 2016 Golden Slipper, Capitalist showed his freshness by racing keenly but was all class in impressively taking out the 850 metre trial on Kensington track.
Capitalist jumped cleanly from the inside gate to settle behind the speed and wanted to get his head up when strung up behind the leaders approaching the home turn and early in the straight.Angled into an inside run by jockey Kerrin McEvoy, Capitalist charged through the gap to quickly find the lead and race away despite being kept under a tight hold.
Eased down in the run to the line, Capitalist scored by one-and-a-half lengths from Vienna Waltz with stakes-winning two-year-old Weatherly working to the line late.Capitalist was the star juvenile of his generation, winning four of his five starts and completing the Magic Millions-Golden Slipper double.
He is expected to resume in the 2016 Missile Stakes at Randwick on August 6.Brilliant!
