Payne Not Permitted To Ride In NSW

3 minute read

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle Payne will not be able to ride in NSW due to holding a dual license.

Racing NSW do not offer dual jockey/trainer licences and those who do possess one will only be licensed in New South Wales as a trainer.

“Not allowed to ride in NSW because of a dual licence. Are they serious?” Payne tweeted this morning.

Payne was booked to ride the John McArdle-trained Grey Street in the Benchmark 85 Sensis Dash to round out proceedings at Randwick on Saturday.

Grey Street has since been scratched from the event.

Payne last rode in New South Wales when partnering Emphatically in the Group 3 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m) during the 2016 autumn carnival.

She had a handful of rides at Randwick last season however prior to that, had not ridden in New South Wales since season 2011/12.

Her first career Group 1 winner came at Randwick when she partnered Yosei to victory in the 2010 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m).
