Another crown for Ms Tasmania

3 minute read

Ms Tasmania ($2) underlined her potential with a gutsy win in the $125,000 McB Developments 3YO Cup overcoming difficulties to score a narrow but breathtaking win in Launceston on Wednesday night.

The filly overraced forcing her jockey Troy Baker to take off a long way from home, all while her main opposition Magnaprime ($4.40), was bowling along at the head of affairs.

The pair, along with Go Jeanie ($9.50), who refused to give up, had a great battle down the home straight, with Ms Tasmania getting her nose down on the line to score.

"Oh wow!" Is how her trainer Siggy Carr summed up the win.

"She didn't settle at all; Troy has done an amazing job. She was fired up; he went with her, but that made her go too early and gee, I thought she was vulnerable late, but she was tough; she wanted it."

"Not much went right for her, she's amazing."

The trainer paid tribute to staff member Jacob Duggan, who does all the work with the filly. At this stage, Carr is not sure where her next start will be, with a Melbourne trip being a possibility.

Runner-up, Magnaprime was brave, as was Go Jeanie, who finished third, with Mastretta doing her best work at the finish to run fourth.

Finally Miss T

Earlier in the night, after a frustrating run of minor placings, including six seconds, Miss Tanzanite ($1.50) broke through for her first win in the 1400m Maiden, scoring by a neck over the fast-finishing Mateus ($5).

Miss Tanzanite had been runner-up at her two runs in from a spell; jockey Troy Baker settled the mare in second spot; she hit the front 200m from home and held on gamely to win.

"I really think the confidence will do her the world of good, and I reckon she will get out over a mile. She did it convincingly, she's jumped up 300m, there's plenty of options for her, I'm just pleased to get this one out of the way," trainer Siggy Carr said.

Baker said the addition of a shadow roll helped Miss Tanzanite race more comfortably.
