Dodgers rally to clinch World Series in game five

3 minute read

The Los Angeles Dodgers have beaten the New York Yankees to win baseball's World Series, recovering from a slow start in game five to clinch the title.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have beaten the New York Yankees 7-6 in a wild game five to win baseball's World Series.

The Dodgers rallied from a 5-0 deficit in New York with five runs in the fifth and then went ahead with two more in the eighth on Thursday (AEDT) to clinch the series 4-1.

Star Yankees centrefielder Aaron Judge had his team firing with a two-run homer in the first, and also pulled off an outstanding catch in the fourth. But he was one of three Yankees to make defensive miscues as the Dodgers ran riot in the fifth.

LA first base Freddie Freeman capped his outstanding World Series with two RBIs in a game that had everything, including an unusual catcher's interference call on Yankees catcher Austin Wills.

It is the Dodgers' first World Series title since the COVID-shortened 2020 season. The Yankees are the most successful team in Major League history, but they have not won the title since 2009.
