Kings' Adams and Cooks combine to shoot Bullets down

3 minute read

Jaylen Adams and Xavier Cooks were the star attractions as the Sydney Kings beat the resurgent Brisbane Bullets in the NBL.

The Sydney Kings' superstar duo Jaylen Adams and Xavier Cooks have combined to bring the Brisbane Bullets back to earth with a 93-81 NBL win.

Ex-NBA guard Adams produced his season-high 32 points at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday as the Kings (10-7) locked up third spot on the ladder to finish the weekend.

Adams capped a brilliant afternoon with a buzzer-beating three-pointer, his fourth triple of the Kings' first game back on their home floor in a month

Fan favourite Cooks (25 points, 11 rebounds) produced the eighth double-double of his first season back in the NBL.

The pair combined on a 15-2 run either side of quarter time that neutralised the Bullets' strong start, before coming alive again in the final period.

The Kings outscored the visitors 27-8 in the final term with Adams netting 11 of his points in the final period.

The resurgent Bullets shot imperiously for the first three quarters and took a seven-point lead into the final change, looking primed to march to their fifth win from six games.

But Brisbane lost their mojo from deep, missing all eight of their attempts from beyond the arc and finding themselves short of answers to pierce the Kings' star-studded front court.

Kings veteran Shaun Bruce had no such problems from deep, hitting a corner three-pointer early in the final term to restore Sydney's lead and force a Bullets timeout.

The Kings never trailed after that.

Brisbane's loss means they remain outside the top six to finish round 12 ahead of their clash against the struggling Cairns Taipans on Friday.
