A star performance from Nyadiew Puoch has helped the Canberra Capitals cruise to an 89-69 WNBL win over Geelong United, while Perth defeated Adelaide.
A red-hot Canberra Capitals side have piled the misery on Geelong United with an emphatic 89-69 win in the WNBL.
Entering the weekend in last place with only two wins, Canberra put in spirited performances to turn around their fortunes on the court across their two matches in round 10.
They snapped their five-game losing streak with an upset 88-77 away win over Adelaide Lightning on Friday before completing the sweep by steamrolling Geelong on Sunday at AIS Arena.
Geelong, starting the round sixth with a 4-7 record, suffered their fourth-straight loss after trailing at every change against the Caps.
Nyadiew Puoch led the way on the scoreboard with 20 points and six rebounds for Canberra, backed by Chantel Horvat (19 points, 12 rebounds and five assists) and Jade Melbourne (17 points).
Opals representative Melbourne reached 1000 league career points against Adelaide and put on a star performance before an injury ended her afternoon prematurely.
The Caps captain fell on her hip after attempting to block late in the third quarter and did not return.
Keely Froling was the shining light for Geelong with 17 points, while Daniel Raber came off the bench to notch 13 on the scoreboard.
Adelaide were consigned to another defeat in the later game on Sunday, with top-two team Perth claiming a 94-76 triumph.
Laeticia Amihere (20 points, seven rebounds) and Anneli Maley (19, 14) combined to put on a show at Perth High Performance Centre and fire the Lynx to their fifth-straight win.
The Lightning had reduced the deficit to five points in the third quarter thanks to an inspired performance by Steph Talboy (17 points) but poor defence undid the three-time Olympian's efforts and allowed Perth to run away.
Earlier in the round, Celeste Taylor and Veronica Burton both scored 20 points for their respective teams Sydney and Bendigo but it was the league-leading Spirit who came out on top 92-71 on Thursday at Qudos Bank Arena.
Top-three team Townsville Fire defeated reigning champions Southside Flyers 78-75 at Melbourne's State Basketball Centre on Saturday, despite Naz Hillmon taking out 26 points for the home side.
