Nash Rawiller, keeping busy with 10 rides on Day One of The Championships, can secure another Group 1 win on the John Thompson-trained Mamaragan in the $500,000 Inglis Sires (1400m) at Royal Randwick today.
Rawiller and Thompson combined with Dreamforce to win the George Ryder Stakes two weeks ago and Mamaragan is $3.20 favourite to give them another major in the Sires.
Mamaragan has demonstrated his emerging talents in just two starts, winning the Skyline Stakes on debut then running a very good third to Farnan in the Golden Slipper.
Form guru Gary Crispe said the “Golden Slipper is the A1 form” and Mamaragan still has considerable upside.
“I feel the step up to 1400m should suit,’’ Crispe said.
“He could even lead today as I feel had he jumped better he would have settled a lot closer in the Slipper. On debut he rode a very hot speed in the Skyline and is more than capable of taking full advantage of the inside draw.
“With even luck, he should prove very hard to beat.’’ Rawiller’s outstanding book of rides also includes favourites Rulership (Kindergarten Stakes), Reloaded (Carbine Club Stakes) and Rubisaki (PJ Bell Stakes).
He’s also riding competitive chances in the other Group 1 races with Homesman (Doncaster Mile), Standout (TJ Smith Stakes) and Eric The Eel (Australian Derby).
