Wild Rain wins 2016 Sir John Monash Group 3 $150,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1100m.
Wild Rain scored a very smart first-up win. She was quickly away from her wide barrier (10) and soon crossed to settle outside the leader (Lord Of The Sky), travelling at quite a good tempo (first 600m 35.35). She moved up on straightening, hit the front nearing the 100m and then drew clear to score a very good win.
Trevinder was sixth, one off the rails, got to third at the 100m and then battled well for a good second, without threatening the winner.
Atmospherical was a handy fourth on the rails from her good barrier (3) to the home turn. She was in a challenging position at the 200m and then kept fighting well for a close up fourth, subsequently gaining third place on protest.
Lord Of The Sky showed his customary pace to lead and retained that position until the 100m. He then held on well, was third past the post but was relegated to fourth on protest, at his first run since March.
General Truce was seventh, between runners, switched out at the 300m and kept battling on well for (2.5 lengths) fifth.
The favourite Fast 'N' Rocking settled back in the field in about 12th place on the rails. He improved between runners at the 200m but was blocked from that point and went to the post an untested (3 lengths) sixth.
