2016 Variety Queensland Cup Listed July 16 - Eagle Farm

3 minute read

Murphy’s Delight wins 2016 Variety Queensland Cup Listed $100,000 at Eagle Farm (QLD), 3200m.

Irish-bred import Murphy's Delight put up a solid effort in taking out this 3200m race, handling the downgraded Heavy8 conditions well. He settled in sixth place, behind a very steady pace before commencing a wide move from the 800m. He challenged at the 200m and kept running on resolutely to score well in a good staying performance.

Pop 'N' Scotch raced in fifth place before making a move, due to the slow tempo, going to second at the 1400m. He got to the front coming to the home turn and then battled really well for a good second.

Viva Espana was back in last place in the ten-horse field, she got along the inner at the home turn and then came with a late run between runners to grab third place in a good staying effort.

Second favourite Jiayuguan was a handy fourth most of the way to the 600m but he weakened from that point to finish last appearing tested by the 3200m distance and the Heavy8 track.
