Bons Away wins 2017 Testa Rossa Listed $120,000 at Caulfield (VIC), 1200m.
Bons Away held on tenaciously to score his fourth successive win and fifth in nine starts. Under Linda Meech they were slow away from barrier eight to settle third last, and still third last at the 600m. Meech got away from the fence soon after but they were seven wide near the last corner yet travelling well.
Maintaining a strong run they gathered in the leaders from the 300m and took over inside the 200m but then had to withstand a great fight to the line, holding on courageously to win by a neck.
The favourite Brave Smash was also back down the side, pushed out five wide into the straight and tried hard all the way to the line to lose narrowly from Fast 'N' Rocking who was last down the side, tracked the winner into the straight then finished best of the rest without looking like catching the first two for third.
