3 minute read

Silverstream wins 2017 Seacorp A.J. Scahill Stakes Group 3 $250,000 at Ascot (WA), 1400m.

Silverstream, recent winner of the Lee Steere Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) at this track on 11 November, staged a smart effort in winning here, her fourth stakes success and her third in group class in 26 starts.

She settled in second last place (on the rails) in the eight-horse field, behind a reasonable pace (first 800m 48.80). She improved between runners on straightening, got a split at the 150m and finished quickly to grab a smart victory.

Properantes raced in third place on the rails, got along the inner to hit the front at the 100m but he could not hold off the late-closing winner to take second.

Django raced in sixth place, one off the rails, moved up at home turn and kept battling on well to take the minor placing.

Of the others Mr Utopia held on for (1 length) fourth after being handy all the way while the favourite State Solicitor disappointed, just battling on for (1.1 lengths) fi‑h after racing outside the leader to the home turn.
